Coordinates: 13°20′N 79°35′E / 13.33, 79.58 Nagari is a Municipal town in Chittoor district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is a semi agrarian – semi industrialised town. A sizeable textile manufacturing industry thrives in and around Nagari. A town panchayat till recent past, it is a Municipal Town now. It is on the Andhra - Tamil Nadu border with a prominent Tamil speaking populace.

Nagari is located at 13.33° N 79.58° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 116 metres (380 feet).

The town is surrounded by hills all around with the prominent cliff popularly known as Nagari nose is conspicuous for miles around. The Nagari a.k.a Kusasthalai river runs on the south of Nagari.

In summer temperatures may go up to 42 to 45 degrees Celsius,and in winter or the lack of it the minimum temperatures will be between 21 and 24 degrees Celsius. Usually summer lasts from March to October. With the advent of rainy season in November,followed by winter which lasts till the end of February. Generally it is a drought prone region.

As of 2001 India census[2], Nagari had a population of 24,370. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Nagari has an average literacy rate of 69%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 77%, and female literacy is 61%. In Nagari, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Nagari being a border town has a healthy mix of Telugu and Tamil speaking populace.

The town mainly is a market place for surrounding villagers to sell their agricultural produce. The Powerloom based textile industry also contributes to the towns revenue share. The Tamil dominated areas such as Pudupet, Chintalapattadai, Ekambarakuppam and Satravada are the major textile manufacturing centres.

The people of Nagari speak mostly Telugu and Tamil. The residents and visitors can be seen in both traditional attire like Dhoti, Lungi and Saree and modern attire.

A local festival Gangamma Jathara is celebrated as a major festival. The Goddess Gangamma is offered animal sacrifices and also pongal and other offerings by the devotees.

Nagari has a a few English schools and many Government Schools which provide primary and secondary education. There is a Government Degree College which offers Bachelors degrees in Arts and Sciences and affiliated to Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. Local schools include Little Flower English School and Saraswati Vignana Mandir where most people send their kids.

Sri DESAMMA Vari Temple is a famous temple around Nagari. Local women visit the temple on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to worship the goddess.

There is a Siva temple which pretty old and is the local worship place for most of the Tamil speaking populace who are shaivaites.

Vishnu for his part also resides in a very old temple which was renovated recently. The presiding deity is Kariyamanikyaswami with his consorts Bhoo Devi and Sridevi. This temple is maintained by the Tirumala Tirupati Devastahanams. The prasadam of this temple is really good.

Nearby Nagari is Bhugga Agraharam which has a very old Shiva temple on the banks of Kusasthalai river.

Kailasnath Konda is a perennial waterfall in Nagari valley of Chittoor district with mineral rich and clear water. The water is considered sacred with curative value. It has a small temple of Shiva and Parvati. People from Chennai and nearby places visit this waterfall due to its perennial and medicinal nature.

Naguteertham is a sacred water pond hill station in Mudipalli, Nagari Mandal.The main thing of this pond is not effected by sun light .It has small temple of Lord Siva (Linga rupam)and Naga raja.Even summer also this pond having full of water.The local persons Mudipalli and near by villagers visit this place for darshan.

In olden days Mudipalli called as Munipalli,because of number of saints(Muni's)living in this village.You can see now also the huts(caves) of Muni's in Naguteertham hills.
