I think it's pretty well written. I mean i for one can tell you that this page has been a source of great infomation on this guy who is elusive and does not speak much about himself. Interestingly after reading the interview given in the External Links section pretty much finds the details given here rather accurate. I think that interview is a pretty good source. J. Nayyar

[edit] Personal details

The piece has a lot of personal detail that I have no way of verifying... anyone else have any sources?? Hulleye 12:11, August 12, 2005 (UTC)

My knowledge of music journalism in Pakistan is rather limited (and information on it may not necessarily be readily available on the net), so maybe someone from Pakistan can help us out!? Rl 12:57, 12 August 2005 (UTC)

Well, i am from Pakistan, but have no source of information about NFP besides hearsay... and some of the stuff this guy is supposed to have been upto has been turned into legend in some circles. A few details (even personal details) are verifiable... for example, he is married to Amber Siddiqi, he did start an independent magazine/pamphlet called The Arousal... but there's other stuff here, about his parents' background etc. that I have no idea about Hulleye 11:22, August 15, 2005 (UTC)

I am from Pakistan and can safely agree with Hulleye that in many sections over the last ten years or so this guy (NFP) has deffinately been turned into legend. I can also verify that most deffinately he is leading Pakistani music critic but also one of of the most controversial guys in the Pakistani media world. I don't know much about his early life stuff but the many people who know him have had the knowledge that it was as controversial. Bottom line is he is still the most read and discussed writers among educated youth of Pakistan and yes either he is loved extremely or equally hated. He has remained bit of a mystery and very elusive. Well, that's all I can say.User:Spockk 12:00, October 3, 2005 (UTC)

He was huge with tons of young Pakistanis in the nineties and then he stopped writing for a while. I'm not sure why but I think I'll believe the reasons given in his profile here. But one thing is for certain is that he was perhaps the only Pakistani journalist who became a celebrity but it is also true that not much of him is seen on TV or heard from on radio and whenever he has appeared he usually keeps mum about the details of his past. He's now sort of an institution in Pakistani music journalism even though I think he now more concentrates on writing his stories and cultural pieces _ Sania Kabir, Islamabad.

Though those close to NFP would agree with much of it I tend also add that for the last some years NFP has written more about social issues than music and also has been active as a Creative Director in a major Pakistani ad agency. This aspect of his career is missing in the entry. Hipnofantasize.

[edit] Advertisng career

Surprizingly nothing is mentioned here about Paracha's contribution regarding the whole concept of activist underground music in Pakistan in the early nineties. He was the main journalistic force whose early writings in this context actually initiated various powerful underground rock movements and concerts between 1991 and 1996, even though he did become very cynical about the whole thing and started mocking it. Tuctuc

[edit] Early life

I have added something in the Early Life section. NFP started his schooling in Kabul American School in 1971 (I was a fellow student). However even though I know he is now also associated with advertising I just couldn't get enough info. Hypnofantasize (10th Feb).

[edit] Date of birth

Can someone please WP:CITE a source for Paracha's date of birth? The lead paragraph states 1967, yet the birth category has 1969. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 11:18, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Quotes

Me again. The list of quotes contained in this article should be migrated over to Wikiquote. Can't sleep, clown will eat me 11:22, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Date of birth

It seems Nov 9 1967 is correct. This is the date given on Nadeem Farooq Paracha Orkut Community run by Fasi Zaka. Tuctuc 18 Feb 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Musician

I have removed the Pioneer section and put the info under The Iconoclast heading because there was repetition. I removed the Musician header as well because the info on his band Atish Raj here conflicted with the info he recently gave on the topic during an interview he gave to a local music channel. Tuctuc 21 Feb 2006

[edit] Early Life

His mother was not a psychology major. She majored in Economics. And his early life isn't such mystery. He has written about it many times i2n various articles, especially in his Coffee House column in the nineties in The News. Powerblue

[edit] Added

I have added Paracha's recent article on Fasi Zaka. powerblue

[edit] Interview

Thanx Powerblue for adding Paracha's long lost bandbaja interview in the External Links section. The piece clears a lot of air that is said about this guy. 202.142.180.2

[edit] Picture

Added brand new picture upfront. Taken from Fasi Zaka's "Nadeem Farooq Paracha" Orkut community. Zaka took the pic himself. Tuctuc

[edit] Recent Interview

Slipped in NFP's recent interview given to Pakistan's WeCite ezine in the External Links section.Eelaan

[edit] Whiplash

Ms.ManizehSa , kindly stop undoing lots of work that has gone in making this page by more than a dozen writers. Your senseless edits have started to seem like sabotage? It has taken my team almost an hour to revive this page as it was before your questionable edit and this page, mind you, is still one of the the main sources of hundereds of Pakistanis and Indians interested in the works and life of Nadeem F. Paracha. Eelaan

[edit] Pictures

I am surprized that till now nobody had put any pics in this piece. PakHistory

[edit] Kashmir, not Afghanistan

Paracha was fired from MAG not because he had accused Jamaat-e-Islami for using funds for Afghan Jihad on its 1993 elections, but for misusing the funds the party had collected for Kashmir struggle. Paracha was staunchly pro-Soviet govt. in Kabul in the '80s and anti-Jamaat because it bred Islamic militants against this government with the Zia dictatorship. Sohaill

[edit] Vandal in the Midst

Ms.Manizeh, bold of you to use your name before vandalizing this page over and over again. Keep your filthy hands off it before I fucking report you! I don't know what problem you have with NFP, but I must remind you a lot of people have worked very hard in getting info for this page. So bugger off! Sohill

[edit] Birthday

NFP's correct birthday is Feb 6, 1967 and not Nov 9, 1967. I've changed it. Sohaill

[edit] Cleanup to be a good article

I do not know the person at all, what I do know is that the article clearly have too many external links, praise and unnecessary quotes. Can somebody with better knowledge strip down to few good sources/links, move quotes to wikiquote and remove/clean obvious sections of praise. --Webkami 10:53, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cleanup 2

I have tried to clean it up a bit. However, I think there is more unfavourable material on him (especially in "The Recluse" section), than praise. Much of the info is correct. Sohaill

  • Thank you for your help. However some of points are still unfixed.
** Very long detail in early life and other sections
** Quotes

Would it be a good idea to leave {{cleanup}} tage there? --Webkami 11:30, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Move from The News

Some parties continue to change the initial text of this section. Kindly provide source of these changes, otherwise your constant changes will be treated as sheer mischif. Thank You. --bandishhh

[edit] 69.208.95.76

Despite repeated warning changes being made from this IP ad. have continued. I am now treating these as mischif and keeping a watch. --bandishhh

[edit] Final Warning

I have given a final warning to the above. The person has continued to violate the ethics and rules ruling Wikipedia's stand on contributions. The involved user's changes are now being treated as vandalism. I will be sending a report to the Wikipedia Administrator for any further action --bandishhh

[edit] Reported

The user has been reported along with 69.51.157.155 because the nature of vandalism is identical. It is the same person using two IP adresses. Investigation so far suggests he/she is operating from Pakistan, most probably North Pakistan. --bandishhh

[edit] Re:Reported

Firstly, you are not an admin on Wiki. Secondly, Paracha was fired from the News, according to the HR Dept of the News, so why are you hiding that? Also, the article has nothing but forced 'praise', and should be revamped. --Tin_man101

[edit] The guy's an idiot

Hahahah ... this guy's crazy! First of all Paracha left The News many years ago. He was just freelancing for them you idiot! These people are asking for a source to prove your point, you obsessive fool.

[edit] Re: The guy's an idiot

What do you mean by 'these people'. You are the same person as this bandissh, and please avoid insults in future, and stop sending me messages pretending to be a Wiki Admin. Thanks. Also, it is a well known fact that Paracha was let go from the News.

[edit] Correction

Sir/Ms. It is a simple case of me constantly asking you to provide links so you can substantiate your claim regarding the changes you keep making. I will not correct it anymore, for the matter's with the Wikipedia Admin. And no, rest assured I am not the same person. I leave you to your devises. Good day. bandishhh

[edit] Citation

I have added a citation tag with both claims. I have no proof that if he was asked to leave or left himself, but this much I know is true that at least for the last many years he was only associatded with The News as a writer and not an employee because he's been Head of Ideas of a large advertising agency for the last three years. [1]

[edit] Clarification

Its funny how these nicks like bandishhh, sohaill (and other such nicks), keep showing up here and all they do is edit this one particular article, and send out fake admins from wiki accounts. Its also interesting that these people with the same IP addresses are the ones praising this gentleman being discussed here.
