[edit] Early career
Nadine Coyle, first found fame in 2001 when, while still at Thornhill College, Derry, she entered the Irish version of the talent show Popstars. As one of the winners of the show, Coyle was selected to become a member of the group Six. Shortly after the group was formed, the bandmates moved into a house together and all were interviewed on camera.
Coyle gave a string of information about herself but then stopped suddenly and whispered "What date of birth did I give...?". She initially maintained that she had simply made a mistake when stating her birthday but later broke down off camera and admitted that she had lied about her age and was in fact only 15 years old.
As the minimum age stipulated by the producers was 18, she had to be dropped from the group and returned to her secondary grammar school, Thornhill College. Six's first single, "Whole Lot Of Loving", became the fastest-selling single in Irish history. Their second Irish single was "Let Me Be The One" and was released after receiving a successful reaction when they supported Westlife. Following an unsuccessful attempt to widen their popularity in the UK, Six's official website disappeared and the group vanished from the pop scene.
[edit] Girls Aloud
In 2002 Coyle returned to enter the UK talent show Popstars: The Rivals at the invitation of manager, Louis Walsh . As she got through the first few rounds, her very first fansite opened. She polled the third-highest number of votes in the final and was chosen to join the group Girls Aloud. During the series, she had been a hot favourite to make the group. When asked to name a highlight from the show, presenter Davina McCall simply answered "Nadine".
With Girls Aloud she has scored 18 top 10 singles (three of which have been #1s) and five platinum albums (including a #1), selling in excess of 4.6 million copies (as of October 2006) in the UK alone. Nadine has the most vocal experience in the group, having taken part and won 2 series of Popstars, the only person to do so. Nadine showed off her vocal talent whilst on tour with her groupmates in May and June 2005, and again during a UK arena tour in May and June of 2006.
Louis Walsh has promised to make Nadine a solo star if and when Girls Aloud go their separate ways. However, she has constantly denied reports she will leave the girl group to become a solo artist. On the 18 April 2007, Nadine Coyle made it onto the front page of the Daily Star that featured new pictures of her from Girls Aloud's new Sunsilk advert that is airing in June. In 2008, Nadine Coyle will make a cameo appearance in the re-make of the St. Trinians movie, playing the part of a schoolgirl with the other members of Girls Aloud, filmed in Spring 2007.
Nadine has also co-written a few songs whilst in the group, including:
- "100 Different Ways" (What Will the Neighbours Say?)
- "Why Do It" (B-side to I Think We're Alone Now)
- "Sexy! No, No, No..."
[edit] Other work
Nadine filmed a cameo appearance in Natasha Bedingfield's video for I Wanna Have Your Babies in Los Angeles.[2] Nadine also appeared on Keith Barry's show The Great Escape which aired on ITV on December 29, 2007.[3]
She was reportedly been approached by Gillette to advertise their female range of razors.[4]
Nadine has made FHM's "100 Sexiest Females" list for the past six years, reaching her highest ranking in 2007. FHM Rankings:
- 2003 - Ranked 87
- 2004 - Ranked 46
- 2005 - Ranked 35
- 2006 - Ranked 45
- 2007 - Ranked 26
- 2008 - Ranked 43
Nadine was also voted the 238 least annoying celebrity of 2007 with more than 7 Million votes being placed on the American "Am I Annoying" website. Nadine was also the only Girls Aloud member to make it onto the least annoying list. [5]
[edit] Personal life
Coyle currently lives in Los Angeles, where her family recently moved to open a string of authentic Irish Pubs. She and her family are currently leasing a mansion in Huntington Beach, California.[citation needed]
In 2004 Coyle split with her footballer boyfriend Neil McCafferty because of their busy schedules. The pair had met in school and had been dating since 2000, but would remain friends.[6]
Coyle met American actor Jesse Metcalfe in February 2006, and started dating. On 21 April 2007 Metcalfe's publicist confirmed the couple had split and denied Metcalfe had cheated on Coyle after his stint in rehab,[7] which Coyle later confirmed on Saturday Night With Miriam, saying they had already split before pictures were taken of Metcalfe with another woman.[8]
Despite reports to the contrary, Coyle told The Sun that she and Metcalfe had not re-established their relationship, and only met up with Metcalfe as friends.[9] The couple has been split for some time, with Coyle's father saying "she did well to get shot of him."[10]
