Millionth Article
I was fortunate enough to add the millionth article. To everyone who's left a message on my talk page: THANK YOU, and I will reply personally on your talk page as soon as I can.
To those who clicked their way here from the press release: While I am, of course, delighted at being the one to hit this milestone, I must confess, along with many others I timed my contributions tonight to give me a chance at being the lucky one. If nothing else, hopefully the article will show newcomers that editing Wikipedia can be done by anyone: one person out there reading this will know something important about the station that isn't on the page yet. If you're that person, go and add to it! Even if a suburban station in a western suburb of Glasgow is hardly the stuff of world-changing articles, if it can get one more person into the project, then it's served an instrumental purpose, as well as an informative one.
Of course, it's just a stub at first. Many Wikipedia articles are. But a million articles, good and bad (and improving) in just a few short years shows what this project is capable of. While Wikipedia is ultimately about quality over quantity, seeing the community being able to reach tangible milestones like this is a great morale-booster, and a clear sign that the Wikipedia project, that so many people work on, read from, and learn from every day is one that is here to stay and will only get better as time goes on. Within the million, many articles need fixed and improved, not least Jordanhill railway station. But, this should not detract from the achievements of Wikipedians everywhere who have taken this project to where it is today. Here's to a million more! Nach0king 23:25, 1 March 2006 (UTC)
