User talk:Nabs

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hello there -- I see you've been doing a lot of good work adding images. Unfortunately, Wikipedia needs to ensure that images are not involation of any copyright, and ideally can be licensed under the GFDL.

Please read Wikipedia's "Image use policy", and go back and properly label each image that you have uploaded. If you are uploading an image under the doctrine of fair use, please place the text "{{fairuse}}" (or a more specific fair-use template, such as {{albumcover}}) in the summary and provide the reason for the claim of fair use. Always state the source of the image. If the image is licensed under the GFDL, please include "{{GFDL}}" in the description.

If the image is under any other license please indicate this by using the appropriate message from Image copyright tags.

If you don't, someone may come along and remove them for possible copyright violation to protect Wikipedia.

Thanks, BCorr|Брайен 15:07, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Walthamstow town hall image

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Walthamstowtownhall.jpg)

Warning sign
This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Walthamstowtownhall.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that your image can be used under a fair use license. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If your image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why your image was deleted. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you.

I've taken a substitute image: Image:Walthamstow Town Hall 20 Apr 2006.jpg, which I took myself last month. It's not quite as nice as the fair-use one, though I live just down the street from it and will probably wander down to get a better one in a month or two David Gerard 17:11, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image tagging for Image:HAROLD_I_HAREFOOT.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:HAROLD_I_HAREFOOT.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 21:48, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Aisam Qureshi

Hi Nabs... I just want to know why you delete seemingly relevant info from Aisam's page, e.g. opponents, results, defeats, etc.

Thanks, Talha mk —Preceding unsigned comment added by Talha mk (talkcontribs) 17:32, August 29, 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply, Nabs. I must admit that I disagree to a degree with that approach. To "only include important info on high level tournaments" is not reasonable since this is an encyclopedia where people are looking for obscure information. For example, one past revision of the article was simply misleading when it says Aisam started 2007 very well, when in fact he didn't even reach the finals at any of the first 7 tournaments that he played, which were all Futures. If this info about Futures/Challengers is missing, a wrong picture will be painted in the reader's mind as it was for me when I read the article. Since Aisam only played 3 high level tournaments this year (Wimbledon, Newport, Halle), do you think that there should only be 3 sets of results/opponents for him? We don't need to add all info for all tournaments but I do think that every tournament he plays in needs to get a mention (e.g. 1st rd loss in Fergana this yr)

Perhaps more people need to be involved in this discussion and we should move it to the discussion page. Your thoughts? Talha mk 19:28, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Hi Nabs... "It's not reasonable to put in all or even most results". I think that every tournament that Aisam plays in needs to get a mention. We don't have to write the opponents name or the score, but his performance must be recorded, be it in a futures event, a challenger or anything else. What we also could do is sub divide the year sections, e.g. 2007 into different categories, like Futures, Challengers, ATP events, and Grand Slams. That way, if somebody only cares about grand slam performances, he won't have to sift through other info.

"Aisam has played in a number of tournaments where he has exited in the first two rounds, and I'm not sure if including those would provide any useful information. If they are to be included then to start from 1998, the article can become rather elongated."
Again, I don't see the harm in an elongated article. As long as it's comprehensive. I've just started following tennis recently which is why I've been updating the 2007 section with new results. As I said before, when I read a certain revision, it made me feel like Aisam was the best player in the world. We need to mention all tournament results, especially 1st rd losses.

"I feel more input needs to be placed on other parts of the article. His reported disputes with the Pakistan Tennis Federation for instance should be in there, as such his participation at the Asian Games."
No problem here. The more the merrier. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Talha mk (talkcontribs) 21:07, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Template:Football in Pakistan

Salam and thanks for letting me know about the Template colour. I actually wanted both headers to have a white font with a green background, reminiscent of the Pakistan flag, but couldnt find the codes needed to make the font green from the blueish link font colour.

BTW, I am still waiting for you to make a user page describing yourself Suprah™ 20:45, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:KarachiBazigar.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:KarachiBazigar.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:08, 1 October 2007 (UTC) and angel]] 19:58, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:WhippsCross3.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:WhippsCross3.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 05:21, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:QureshiBopanna.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:QureshiBopanna.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:42, 4 January 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Calliopejen1 (talk) 23:42, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:PPL 01.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:PPL 01.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
