The N (Northern) postcode area, also known as the London N postcode area[2], is the part of the London postal district covering much of north London, England.

It includes parts of the London boroughs of Hackney, Islington, Camden, Barnet, Haringey and Enfield. The postcode area does not cover all of north London, with the EN postcode area covering sections of Enfield and Barnet and the HA postcode area covering a section of Barnet.

The postcode area originated in 1857 as the N district. It was divided into numbered districts in 1917.[3] The districts usually cover a wider area than their names might suggest. As of 2004, the district names do not form part of the postal address.[2]
