Dena Marie Richardson (born April 10, 1984) is an American journalist and media personality. She has been a reporter for KMEG in Sioux City, Iowa since 2006[1].

[edit] Early life

Dena Richardson was born in Karnes City, Texas, the youngest daughter of Dicky and Elaine Richardson. Richardson's only sibling, Anna, was born in 1979. Her father is an Outbreak Specialist with the Texas Animal Health Commission[2], and her mother is the superintendent of Pawnee ISD. She also was the principal at a local school, Roger E. Sides Elementary School [3].

She attended Roger E. Sides Elementary School from 1990 - 1995, Karnes City Junior High from 1995 - 1998, and Karnes City High School from 1998 - 2002[3]. All three schools are in Karnes City Independent School District.

It was during high school that she fell in love with journalism. She was the editor of her high school newspaper, the Badger-Times. She won the Caller-Times/Channel 6 South Texas Distinguished Scholars award from the Corpus Christi Caller-Times[4] in November of 2001. She received college scholarship money from this award.[5].

During her high school career, she won several other competitions including the UIL Feature Writing for Conference 2A during the 1999 - 2000 school year[6]. Richardson was also a member of the drill team, debate team, National Honor Society, Student Council and the Junior Engineering Technical Society[4].

Richardson began college in the fall of 2002 at the University of Texas at Austin. Dena received a B.J. in Broadcast Journalism from The University of Texas at Austin in 2006. She enjoyed college life and remains a fan of UT athletics[1].
