Arabic pronunciation? Does anyone actually know the Arabic pronunciation of this? Writing the vowels out with consonants ya and alif doesn't actually mean they're long vowels, not in foreign words. It's normal to write out all vowels in full for those. The [nidZa:mi:na:] looks like it's been read off the Arabic written form. But the pronunciation could be [nidZa:mina] or some such.
[edit] Photos
Could we get some better, more up-to-date photos for this page? The picture of the "church" is actually the cathedral, as it was before it was severely damaged in fighting in the city. There's a much better one on the web at [1], and it would also be good to have photos of the main mosque, the main market and the Chari river. Kahuzi (talk) 15:16, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- Sadly, we need free images, which is quite a big problem, as other websites images are almost always non free. BTW, Kahuzi, do you have any photos from when you were in Chad that you could upload to wikipedia? All Chad articles suffer from having a very small number of images.--Aldux (talk) 15:37, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, there is some good stuff on the web, for example [2]. I've contacted the owner, Bernard Cloutier, and he replied, "I will gladly allow wikipedia to use any number of my photos but I do insist that due recognition be given by a link to my site under each one." However, given the strict rules on Wikipedia, I don't think I can use that permission; I think I'll need to ask him to upload them himself with permission for free use. On my own photos of Chad, I may still have a few somewhere, though I doubt that they are in very good condition. Finding them and sorting through them is job I intend to do after I retire, late this year. Kahuzi (talk) 12:57, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
