The North-South Skirmish Association is an organization based mainly on the east coast of the United States; its goal is to keep alive the tradition of Civil War Era firearms and weapons. Reenactment matches, or skirmishes, are held throughout the year that feature both individual and team competitions.

Members dress in the style of clothing of Civil War soldiers and shoot approved firearms that are either original or replicas of weapons issued to soldiers. Individual and team matches are shot at ranges varying from 25 to 100 yards (91 m). Individual matches are live ammo shot at paper targets for score while team matches are a series of timed events shot at breakable targets (with penalties for target left unbroken). The team with the best (lowest) time wins a given match.

The National competitions are held twice yearly in Winchester, Virginia in May and October. Otherwise the eastern part of the country is broken up into regions which hold their own regional skirmishes throughout the year, generally once a month during the warmer months.
