Nélson Alexandre Gomes Pereira usually known as Nélson (pron. IPA: ['nɛɫsɔn]), (born October 20, 1975 in Torres Vedras) is a football (soccer) goalkeeper, who is currently playing for C.F. Estrela da Amadora in Portugal.
[edit] Football career
After having started his football career with hometown club SCU Torreense, Nélson was primarily used as a backup at Sporting Clube de Portugal, playing second fiddle to Ricardo, having played there for almost a decade.
After the 2005/06 season he moved on to play for Vitória Futebol Clube, but due to unpaid wages, a recurring problem in the club for the past three seasons prior to his arrival, he left the sadinos, being out of work for almost six months, before joining another Lisbon side, CF Estrela da Amadora, on July 2007.
Nélson was capped once for Portugal, and was their third-choice goalkeeper at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, but has never been recalled since.
