Talk:Myths about East Germany

Nonsensical, pro-communist POV on a topic that should not be an encylopedia article. john 00:10, 6 May 2004 (UTC)
- agreed, spike it --Krupo 00:31, 6 May 2004 (UTC)
- I can't really tell, it's Germglish to me. It seems like it would be better to edit it into English, then NPOV, then VFD if there wasn't anything left. Some of what was said about East Germany has to be propaganda, so the concept itself is sound. Verdict: Delete, unless User:Samuel J. Howard comes back and fixes it, as he said he would. --Ben Brockert 00:32, May 6, 2004 (UTC)
- delete this crap please. --Jiang 00:33, 6 May 2004 (UTC)
- Delete, POV. It's such a long way from becoming a good article that I can't see how this is done without a complete rewrite. -- Chris 73 | Talk 00:43, 6 May 2004 (UTC)
- I agree. It looks as if the page was written in Russian first and then poorly translated. I can't even make enough sense of it to decide on POV. (New Reader)
- Take a look at the link at the bottom of the page. It looks to me like it was written in German and then machine translated, making it a CopyVio among other things.
Delete. I'll fix it if we vote to keep it, but I'm not gonna fix it if it's gonna be deleted.--Samuel J. Howard 01:27, May 6, 2004 (UTC) - Delete. Aside from personal bias against DDR apologists, this is propaganda, and possibly copyvio. Yes, it is most likely a machine translation; for instance, I did so here, and note the instances of the same German words it missed (wahlzettel and wahlurnen) there and in "Myth 12" of th article. I say the whole thing should be deposited on User:62.246.62.242 userpage like the steaming turd it (and the DDR) is. Alcarillo 02:39, 6 May 2004 (UTC)
- The Babelfish translation of the External link [ http://tinyurl.com/36dnw here] bears a striking resemblance to the article. The article even contains some of the same translation errors. This was copied from that site, trimmed down, run through babelfish, and then cleaned up slightly. I can't be sure what the license on the site says, but it appears to not meet Wikipedia's needs. -- Cyrius|✎ 03:52, May 6, 2004 (UTC)
- Delete, just like we did the last time this page was posted. Rmhermen 04:01, May 6, 2004 (UTC)
- You mean someone actually had the gall to post this once before? Oh, joy! We get to vote for another delete! Put that in your Trabant. - Lucky 6.9 07:03, 6 May 2004 (UTC)
- This is a recreation of the laughable Myths over the GDR (old version), which was not deleted, but is now the respectable Cold War propaganda in Germany. Redirect there, and refer to Talk:Cold War propaganda in Germany for previous debates about this same nonsense. —No-One Jones 10:16, 6 May 2004 (UTC)
- Redir to Cold War propaganda in Germany. Andrewa 12:14, 6 May 2004 (UTC)

- Whether this is true or not anything critical of the US position would never survive on this site I'm afraid. I offered to save this last time - I now consider contributing political articles on this site to be utterly pointless. NPOV really isn't just regurgitating what you are told by your government guys.Secretlondon 14:03, 6 May 2004 (UTC)
- Does taking copying someone else's article and pasting it into Babelfish really count as "contributing"? -- Cyrius|✎ 14:54, May 6, 2004 (UTC)
- I am not the original author of this article. Please retract your slur. Secretlondon 16:39, 6 May 2004 (UTC)
- No, no, you're losing your touch. You have to say corporate media in every post; otherwise, you don't get your cookie. Also mention Zionism and insist that it be called "Middle Germany", for bonus points. Grendelkhan
- Comment: It's a fine line we walk sometimes. This is not the place to attack the government (yours, mine, or others), but neither is it the place to defend it. This is a place to present the information that has led you to these conclusions, yes, but even that's not always advisable. The problem is, we tend to know a lot about what we care about, and care a lot about what we know about. My best advice is to contribute in areas in which you pass the Reader's Digest test: The difference between a prejudice and a conviction is you can explain a conviction without getting mad. - And new users picking on me for no apparent reason. You seem to be slightly confused about German irredentism, btw. Secretlondon 17:30, 6 May 2004 (UTC)

- Keep. I've been bold and made it a redirect to Cold War propaganda in Germany.--Samuel J. Howard 21:13, May 6, 2004 (UTC)
- Delete. Please be aware that this is becoming the English translation of what has probably been the nastiest experience the German wikipedia had with a single user during the last months. The user in question has been banned (if you understand German, you can read the discussion and voting here), but keeps appearing under new user names, often posing as another person to support his own position in the discussions. Also, he usually enters deleted articles under new handles, so if this is deleted watch out for Myths about the GDR etc. High on a tree 13:50, 7 May 2004 (UTC)
- Delete. Andris 05:02, May 8, 2004 (UTC)
- Delete, do not redirect. The redirect has the copyvio in its page history, and anyway it's not needed. Wile E. Heresiarch 06:04, 8 May 2004 (UTC)
