Review: In Progress

Contents

[edit] Overall

  • Article is reasonably written well and properly sourced
  • Bulleted lists need to be rewritten into prose
  • Images need to be added to the article
  • Campus section needs expansion

I'm going to place the article's review on hold until 14 January to allow for the editors to make changes as a part of the review process. A further decision will be made from there. Mystache (talk) 18:18, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

I plan on doing improvements throughout the day on 14 January, however, I cannot provide a photo of the campus at this time. I am two hours away from the campus and cannot make the drive down for an image until the 26th or later at the earliest. Can you postpone total review of the content ntil the 18th at the earliest so that I can complete some additional work?
And if possible, can you give opinion regarding Ashland Community and Technical College#Academics and demographics? I feel that it was much more clear and concise in bullet format, and other universities at WP:UNI have used the bulleted format as well. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 05:23, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay in the review. Wiki slipped under the cracks for a bit once classes started up. I'll follow up with you a little later today. Mystache (talk) 15:27, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Same here. Classes have been delaying much needed work throughout WP. No worries. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 16:17, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Lead

The introduction to the article is a bit too in depth in describing the mechanics of how the college's degree programs work. Generally, the introduction should contain only basic information about the university and mention items that are covered later in the article. See WP:LEAD for more help

Moved most of the information down to Academics. Can you take a look at the University of Kentucky lead as well, if you have the chance? I was told that the lead on that former GA-candidate was to be considerably longer and more detailed, leading it to balloon to considerable proportions. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 16:03, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] History

Well-written, well-sourced. I'd like to see a bit more on how each of the respective parent schools operated and if you could find some images in local archives, that would be great. On the whole, its right about where it needs to be.

Added information regarding the former UK tie-in; will try to find more from 1997 if the archives are sufficient. I don't have any images currently, although I lived only minutes from it for many years. I'll take one of the campus on my next trip to Ashland, which should be in several weeks. [edit] Campus

This section could use a lot of expansion. It should answer the questions: Where are the campuses individually and with respect to each other? What schools are on each campus? What are the distinct architectural features of buildings on each campus and of the campus as a whole? etc.

The section could also benefit greatly from the addition of images depicting the campuses (freely-licensed images, of course :) )

I removed information from an IP address based on the presumption that it was a duplicate of the Academics, however, it was not. I'll reinsert it in and do a little cleanup. Images of the other campuses will be forthcoming -- the one on the Industrial Parkway is one I pass by often en route to Ashland. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 16:05, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Academics

These bulleted lists should be broken down into prose paragraphs. Each of the respective departments should have a description of when they were formed, what the organization of the department, and any notable people within it. I would limit inclusions of specific programs to particularly notable ones.

The section should also have a lead-in that describes the makeup of the school. The enrollment section has the kind of information one would expect to see in a lead in and would do, but if you could find more recent number it would be helpful.

What is written in this section so far is good and well-sourced, kudos.

I'm not for sure I can find dates of when each department was formed or any notable people -- it is a community college, after all. I've added a lead-in, and will rewrite the section to remove the bullets. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 18:42, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
I made a note above regarding the bullet->paragraph conversion of the Academics section. I felt it was more concise in the bulleted format, and per WP:UNI, there are FA and GA articles with a mix of both. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 16:07, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Endowment

The section is interesting but needs a bit more context. What was the total endowment of the school prior to the campaign? Where does it stand now? If it is the first time the school has ahd an endowment, it may be better to move the section to 'history'.

Added a bit from 2003, but I could not find anything in the archives of various newspapers regarding prior endowments. I'll continue to search around. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 17:56, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
I found more regarding a building donation, which I had regarded previously as something outside of the endowment drive. Seicer (talk) (contribs) 18:20, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Student Life

Needs to be fleshed out into prose. What about student life as a whole? Are there any sports teams on campus? How many student organizations are there in the college? Describe the notable organizations and what they (notably) do in about a paragraph.
