Myrovlytis Trust
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Myrovlytis Trust is a medical genetics charity, registered in the UK with the Charity Commission (number 1122073) and founded in 2007.
As a funding organisation, it has two aims:
1. To promote research into rare genetic disorders, including but not limited to Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome (BHD syndrome).
2. To advance education of the public in medical and molecular genetics.
The MT is focusing initially on BHD syndrome. To further its aims, the MT currently supports a range of activities.
1. Funding scientific research to increase our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying BHD syndrome. For example, it recently awarded a series of grants to study the molecular biology and biochemistry of BHD syndrome.
2. Supporting the European BHD Consortium - a network of clinicians and other researchers working on BHD syndrome.
3. Awarding travel grants to enable scientists to attend a conference or to spend time collaborating in another laboratory.
4. In collaboration with the Birt Hogg Dube Family Alliance, it is creating a website that will be the first point of reference for anyone interested in BHD syndrome - patients, researchers, students etc.
The MT is involved in organising the Inaugural BHD Symposium - a one-day scientific meeting to be held in Roskilde, Denmark in September 2008.
