[edit] LIP6

The creator of the article I deleted under CSD A8 was created by User:ChantalPerrichon, who I notified on their talk page of this deletion. Your subsequent recreation of LIP6 was deleted (and then undeleted, admitting the deletion was in error) by RasputinAXP. Please ensure you've got all the relevant facts to hand in future. Regards, Proto||type 18:06, 24 May 2006 (UTC)

The article was a clear copyright violation. LIP6's website indicates that all content is copyright, and is not freely available to plunder. The fact a new user chose to create an account in that name is not indicative of copyright being waived. Wikipedia has to be exceedingly careful with copyright issues. If I came across such another blatant copyvio, I would do the exact same thing. Proto||type 00:35, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
The fact that I notified the creator 18 minutes after I began to delete the twenty or so copyrighted images they uploaded, rather than before, is indeed a (minor) failure on my part to fully adhere to the exact letter of the precise law. I apologise if this offended you. I'm unsure as to what action you would like me to take at this point - or are you satisfied with just castigating me? Proto||type 07:34, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, but no. A minor procedural error is not going to make me or any other admin knowingly restore material that is copyrighted. In addition, even if I was willing to contravene all good sense and do so, image deletions can not be reversed. I do thank you for your speedy and well-thought-out responses, however, and will endeavour to stick exactly to the prior notice rule in future. Regards, Proto||type 08:07, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

If you feel that mediation is required over this, then be my guest. I would ask that you hold off until June 5th, as (and you may be able to tell from my lack of contributions) I have limited net access at the moment. The user who created the copyvio page clearly knew wiki mark up text, was therefore not new, and should have been smart enough not to commit such flagrant copyright violation. Proto||type 18:53, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, but I don't care whether it was taken from the website of a commercial content provider, or, as is the case, not. The deletion was the correct call, even if not strictly within policy. You're free to copy the page and the copyrighted images again, from the french Wiki, or from LIP6's website, but I won't do it for you. The article then would go through the full deletion procedure. Proto||type 10:03, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi MyPOV. Please note the following Deletion Review link: [[1]], which indicates Wikipedia peers believe continuing with your shorter, non-copyright-violating rewritten version is the correct way to proceed. If, however, you still wish to make a big fuss about the situation, that's your decision. I'm going to go create some articles. Please let me know via my talkpage if you choose to request further input on this issue. Thanks. Proto||type 10:00, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Bordeaux1.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Bordeaux1.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 22:51, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:UTC logo.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:UTC logo.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 08:17, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:University of Avignon logo.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:University of Avignon logo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 20:43, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] University guideslines - thoughts sought

I was wondering if you could offer your thoughts on the proposed Wikipedia:WikiProject Universities/Article guidelines, given your work on the French universities, especially on naming conventions for both systems and institutions in non English speaking countries. Timrollpickering 16:27, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Sure, I'd be delighted to! But I don't quite feel ready for prime time on this. I'd like first to consolidate my naming rationale for the ninety French universities that I've been looking at. To this end, I've been writing up a set of guidelines, with references to relevant Wikipedia conventions. I'll be sure to take into consideration and cite the guidelines that you point out. [edit] WikiProject Newsletter n°1

Bonjour and welcome to the first WikiProject France newsletter!! It should become a monthly special of our project, but until the next issue, here are some points to consider for the month:

  • In an effort to determine the active members from the inactive, all members are asked to simply sign on my special userpage.
  • I have slightly rearranged and updated the Project page, putting all the featured lists in collapsible tables. This unclutteres the page and you only have to see them if you want to. Give your feelings at the talk page.
  • I have made a Wikipedia advert for our project, Image:Qxz-ad108.gif, what do you think? Personally I feel the words need improving ...
  • There are still map problems at Template:French commune - any help at resolving them would be greatly appreciated.
  • What about starting a monthly drive? We currently have no Featured Portals (except for the Basque Portal which really isn't French any way), so how about improving Portal:France??? I don't know what's exactly wrong but the criteria can be seen at Wikipedia:Featured portal criteria.

It doesn't seem like a lot, so I hope we will still have enough problems for nexts months issue. Salut till the next issue, ChrisDHDR (17:18, 10 November 2007 (UTC)).

[edit] RE: List of public universities in France by academy

I don't know, the page just seems a bit disorganised. ChrisDHDR 19:45, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

This is what I meant. Now that I've done it though, I've taken the tag away. Thanks for nudging me to do it rather than to leave it to someone else! ChrisDHDR 10:11, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
I removed the external links since they are already on each university's page and the point of a list is to give links to related articles and not to their websites. Plus, the article is not called List of external links to public universities in France by academy ;-). ChrisDHDR 15:16, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
Ja, I get your point on the article/template comparasion. I've reverted it but since you've edited it since my last edit, could you please redo your modifications. ChrisDHDR 15:45, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
