RE: proposed merger with myotonia congenita. This would be an inappropriate merger. Myotonia is also seen in paramyotonia congenita and potassium-aggravated myotonia (among others). We should keep this article as a general myotonia description so it doesn't have to be described repetitively elsewhere -Dpryan 22:04, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

People suffering from disorders involving myotonia can have a life threatening reaction to certain anaesthetics, one of these conditions occurs when the patient is under anaesthetic and is termed " Malignant Hyperthermia ". Anaesthesiologists cannot diagnose this condition until the patient is under anaesthetic so this condition is very life threatening. Is this always true?
