David N. Myers University is a private, not-for-profit university located in Cleveland, Ohio.

Myers University is a small university that offers a wide array of business programs, although it is no longer exclusively a business school. Myers is the oldest four-year college in the City of Cleveland. It was established in 1848, and has undergone several name changes. The mission of the university is to provide high quality and affordable education to the residents of Northeastern Ohio. Additionally, students can earn an array of degrees via Myers' accredited online course catalog.

The most notable alumni of David N. Myers University is Cleveland native John D. Rockefeller, who attended the university when it was known as Folsom's Business College. After four years under this identity, the university merged with the Bryant and Stratton system in Cleveland, under which it remained until 1867. Myers University, at this time, took the name Union Business School to celebrate the Union's Civil War victory. From 1941-1994, the school was known as Dyke College. David N Myers, a Cleveland business leader and philanthropist, became the school's proprietor in the late twentieth century.

On 10 December 2007, Myers University president Richard Scaldini announced that the institution will close at the end of the Fall 2007semester. This move was stayed by Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Daniel Gaul on Tuesday, 11 December. Judge Gaul stated that he expected the university to remain in operation under new leadership.

Myers offers degrees at the Associate, Baccalaureate and Masters levels. The university is accredited by North Central Association-Higher Learning Commission and The International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).

DNMU used to be a member of the NAIA Athletic Conference. Teams did compete in numerous sports, and were known as the Mustangs until Richard Scaldini canceled sports on the last day of the spring semester in 2007.

[edit] Campus

Myers University's main campus consists of two buildings. The main classroom center is located near the intersection of East 38th Street and Chester Avenue in downtown Cleveland's historic Midtown Neighborhood. The school's administrative offices and graduate school are located in the Stager Mansion, which was formerly known as the University Club of Cleveland. Stager Mansion is located at the intersection of East 38th Street and Euclid Avenue, and was part of "Millionaire's Row", an array of upscale homes once owned by the wealthy elite of Cleveland in the early to mid twentieth century.

Myers University started an athletic program in 2004, which first offerd baseball and tennis. In 2005 they introduced soccer, softball, and basketball. The men's soccer team's first head coach was Michael Rahn, a former Detroit Neon MISL soccer player. Kai Haaskavi Was the women's soccer coach, however they could not field an entire team, and had to "borrow" players from the softball team. The Softball team also could not field an enitre team, due to lack of players. The coach quit with the first couple weeks of the semester. The basketball team remained a club sport for men's and women's opening season. The men's soccer team was the most successful team at myers for the 2005 year.

In 2006 Myers university added basketball to their varsity sports list. The head men's soccer coach quit after the first year. Coach Rahn warned many of the student athletes about the problems that the school was having, which was the main reason for his departure. He was replaced by womans head coach Kai Haaskavi. Several players left the school to transfer to other institutions including captain Lee W Spilker. Those who remained included, captain Mathew Krajikowski from Saginaw, Michigan Heritage, Austin Stewart from Canton Mckinley, Derrick Sullivan Parma, Michael Forchione Canton GlenOak, Jeremy Bruhner Parma, and Milan Ceric Parma.

The womans soccer team, still coached by Haaskavi, saw again more players transfer to other schools, but however some players did stay, Nicole Primmer, Titi Jarboe, and Bretlyn Kelley.

The baseball team who was coached by athletic director Chuck Cangelosi, saw a flurry of talent come into the school, with much hype. They had a much improved year. Players returning from previous years include, Fred Austin, Jake Oney,Chris Tucker, Mathew Lasker, Adam Elmer, Andy Trihlin, Justin Whisinhunt, and several other players.

The basketball teams, men and women, also had a pretty competitive season, and were the dominant sports team at Myers along with the baseball team. Tony Timatao, Sanchez Starks,

The softball team won seven games and traveled to Disney world along with the baseball team to compete in a tournament. It was a good year for the girls considering the 2005 season was canceled. Some of the players included: Megan Swan, Monique Crowe, Caroline Kilpatrick, Kim Corbets, and Alyssa Rundle.

Due to lack of funding the President of the school, Scaldini announced on one of the last days of the 2007 spring semester (the last day of school) that all sports teams would be canceled at the institution. The student athletes felt very betrayed considering he announced this on the last day of school. This came as a shock for the student athletes who invested much of their time and a great deal of money on the school, who was shutting down sports completely. Almost all of the athletes transferred out of the school extremely disappointed. Having the dean of the school announce this at an incredibly terrible timely fashion many of the athletes could not continue their athletic talents due to coaches and programs being full, or out of scholarship money.

Myers University announced it will close its doors at the end of the semester if they do not find a buyer by the end of the week.

On a popular news station in Cleveland, Ohio, it was said that President Scaldini has been living off of "gifts, and donations" for the past year.
