Myanmar Maritime University

Myanmar Maritime University (MMU) is a university in Yangon, Burma. On March 29, 2004 it was inaugurated with modern design.

The Myanmar Maritime University was established by the Myanmar Ministry of Transport to develop human resources by providing a quality Maritime Education System for the nation and for the international maritime community. The university trains students to become Naval Architects, Ocean and Marine Engineers, Port and Habour Engineers and River and Coastal Engineers.

According to the Ministry of Transport in Myanmar, the precise official aims of the university are as follows [1]:

  • (a) to contribute towards modernization and development of the State by maritime industry;
  • (b) to nurture the ethical, skillful and reputable maritime experts;
  • (c) to teach science and technology contributory to the maritime profession
  • (d) to make plans and arrangements for perpetual development of maritime industry;
  • (e) to know and comply with the provisions and standards prescribed by the International Maritime Organization;
  • (f) to carry out the necessary research works for the development of the maritime industry.
