My New Partner
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
My New Partner (Orig. Les Ripoux), also known as Le Cop, is a 1984 French movie directed by Claude Zidi. It won the César Award for Best Film in 1985, and features a notable performance by Philippe Noiret. The French title "Ripoux" refers to a specific slang "verlan" where the words are pronounced backwards in order not to be recognised by the lay audience. The name of the slang "verlan" is the backward prononciation of "envers" meaning reverse in French, so "Ripoux" corresponds to "Pourris" which means rotten. The plot of the movie deals with multiple scams orchestrated by the main characters of the film, two "rotten cops".
Two sequels were later made: Ripoux contre Ripoux and Ripou 3.
