My Date with a Vampire
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
My Date With a Vampire is a Cantonese television series. The title refers to a succession of three Cantonese television series started in 1998 produced by Asia Television Ltd. in Hong Kong. The programme features a freedom fighter-turned-vampire in WWII against Japan, his adopted son/brother, three incarnations of a Japanese lieutenant, all of whom were bitten by the vampire king Cheung Sun in 1938 (apart from the third incarnation), and priestess from the family of Ma (which cooperated with the Taoist Mao family for generations to rid the world of evil supernaturals, the last blood-related descendant being Mao Xiaofang, played Lam Ching-Ying in previous vampire-busting TV series).
The Vampires here are regarded as creatures beyond the Three Dimensions (Heaven Earth and Humanity) and Six Realms, where everything else reside, including all animals, humans, deities, spirits, etc.
Vastly popular during its time and vaguely inspired by Buffy the Vampire Slayer in America, My Date's supernatural timeline-spanning immortal Romeo & Juliet story revolves around the recurring theme of undying love throughout the ages and daring to love despite of obvious dire consequences. The show was also made famous by the mini-skirts of lead character Ma Xiaoling played by Joey Meng Yee Man, ever present even in coldest snowing conditions.
