My Blue Hemi is a punk-influenced American rock band from Boynton Beach, Florida. While they achieved moderate success in the early 2000s -- Rag Magazine described the band as spending "the bulk of their career on the brink of local stardom" -- they "never quite broke beyond a substantial legion of devotees enamored of their genre twisting blend of rock & roll."

[edit] Band history

Jason Carro (vocals, rhythm guitar), and Damian Capo (Bass) met sometime during a high school music theory class in 1994. A mutual appreciation of psychoactive compounds and Pink Floyd developed into the formation of the band sometime in late 1996. The as of yet un-named band wrote and performed with various drummers until a chance meeting with Carl Parker in 1997 at a local pool hall. The bond was instantaneous, within a few months the gathering had produced and self-released a four song demo titled The Breadman Sessions, which would contain a rough version of the cult classic, funky bass driven burner Whiteroom. With Whiteroom getting significant local radio air play and a fresh demo in hand, the band began to search for a name for this unlikly trio. -- PB Underground Press interviewed the band in June 1998: "So what's the story with the name? I know you are all car guys, any other meaning?" Damian Capo: "Thats actually kind of amusing, when Carl first started coming around, he was driving a P.O.S green 1983 Dodge Ramcharger. See, Carl did auto body work for a living and every vehicle he owned was a work in progress, missing panels, no interiors, all that good stuff. So, one day we were all sitting on the tailgate throwing back and forth name ideas, and I said; How about My Blue Hemi? I explained it's meaning to Jay and Carl and they f**king lost it, I was inpired by Carl's truck, but I'm so color blind that I always thought the truck was blue."

In 1998, My Blue Hemi began playing for people every chance they had, no show, party, or festival was too small. Not too long after, the band took on close friend and spiritual mentor Jayson "Firecrotch" Rotella. -- Rag Magazine "Jayson was anointed with the nickname Firecrotch during his freshman year of high school because of his fiery red hair." Firecrotch by trade was a very talented guitar player, who stepped in on bass to fill a void left when Damian moved to rhythm guitar. Firecrotch's dub and reggae influence on bass was unmistakable and the new material the band would produce was drawing a legion of new fans.

From early 2000 to 2003, My Blue Hemi hit the scene with a vengence playing all over the state and becoming a staple at local venues like Ray's Blues Bar, Spankys, and Abacos. It was during this period the band recorded three self-released live EPs: Live At Ray's I, Live At Ray's II, and Live At Ray's Birthday Bash. -- Rag Magazine Damian Capo: "The live EPs are raw and loaded with an energy we could of never produced in a studio. Hearing the crowd interaction and Jay's dialogue with the crowd are true highlights of these sessions."

In 2003, My Blue Hemi underwent another lineup change, adding longtime friend and local scene veteran Mac Thompson on bass so Firecrotch could play lead guitar. My Blue Hemi also entered the studio to record their first full length album for local label Big Block Records. The five months of writing and recording began to take a toll on the band and My Blue Hemi called it quits in Sepember 2004.

Always close friends and brothers My Blue Hemi got together to hang out and play some songs in Royal Palm Beach, Florida. The sessions went so well that the band found themselves in the studio again May 2008. -- PB Underground Press"The new material is fantastic, we are so exited to get this stuff out for people to enjoy as much as we do."
