Hi, I’m Minh Nguyễn, an undergraduate Computer Science student at Stanford University[1] from Loveland, Ohio, United States, North America, Earth, Solar System, Local Fluff, Local Bubble, Orion Arm, Milky Way galaxy, Milky Way Subgroup, Local Group, Virgo Supercluster, Local Filament, Universe. You get the idea.
I volunteer as a bureaucrat at the Vietnamese Wikipedia and Vietnamese Wiktionary, and as an administrator at the Vietnamese Wikibooks, Multilingual Wikisource, and Wikimedia Meta-Wiki. I’m one of the people who keep the main Wikipedia portal up-to-date. (If you know HTML, you can too!)
For those not using a Unicode-capable browser, you can call me Minh Nguyen. But I'm not related to that Minh Nguyen. (Or probably any other Minh Nguyen you come across.)

[edit] Concentrations
Although I copyedit articles of all topics as I come across them, I typically write prose on the following topics:
- Cincinnati, Ohio, particularly the East Side and northern suburbs, such as Loveland. I write and maintain articles on Cincinnati-area schools, because they’re always in need of attention and protection from vandals. Also, Cincinnati-area television stations were once a strong interest of mine.
- Open source software and free content websites.
- Vietnamese language and culture.
If you’re writing articles about any of these topics and have questions, feel free to send them my way and I’ll do my best to help.
[edit] Contributions
My first contribution to Wikipedia was a minor, anonymous edit at United States presidential line of succession, which was later shown to be incorrect.
Most of my contributions occur at the Vietnamese Wikipedia and Wiktionary, where I’m a bureaucrat, kind of like the super-administrators at forums, but less dictatorial. I was one of a handful of contributors to the Vietnamese Wikipedia in late 2003, and I founded the Vietnamese Wiktionary not long after. Being an administrator at a Wikimedia wiki is tons of work, but it allows you to actively collaborate with countless people and visibly shape an important project. Nevertheless, I declined to run for administrator at the English Wikipedia in 2007.
Being a sysop at smaller projects, like the Vietnamese-language wikis, is like working for a startup: you work day and night, handling numerous poorly-defined roles, and recognize just about everyone you encounter. You make real, lasting decisions that are not so much influenced by policies or guidelines as by common sense and intuition. On the other hand, if you tell your friends you’re working on the Vietnamese Wiktionary, you get a blank stare.
So working for the English Wikipedia is like working for a huge conglomerate whose logos appear on the sides of buses: even if you get a lot done, your contributions are not going to stand out too much. Nevertheless, you’re part of something big. Most of my contributions here come in the form of typo corrections and interwiki links between the English and Vietnamese Wikipedias (see Wikipedia:WikiGnome). But I’ve also contributed some original content here, too.
[edit] Licensing
After much thought and consideration on the topic – about three seconds’ worth – I’ve decided to be generous with my pittance of contributions here, especially to free the Rambot articles:
(I typically license my original work under the Attribution ShareAlike license anyhow.)
[edit] Tasks
- Replace
links to the former Cincinnati Post websitewith Wayback Machine or NewsBank links. (Also:The Kentucky Post.More, and even more!) - Write some more articles:
- Cincinnati Arch
- Girls' Town of America [2]
- WPTO (so that WPTD doesn't turn into some kind of Siamese twin article...)
- Convert photo of Loveland flag to SVG. This might help.
