MXenergy is a privately owned natural gas and electricity supplier based in Stamford, Connecticut. It has more than 500,000 commercial and residential customers in 37 utility territories in the United States and Canada.
MXenergy was founded in April 1999 by current President and Chief Executive Officer Jeffrey Mayer and Executive Vice-President Carole Artman-Hodge. The company first started serving customers in the Baltimore Gas & Electric territory, and is now a licensed and authorized energy supplier in 14 states, British Columbia and Ontario.
In August 2006, MXenergy acquired Houston-based Shell Energy Services Company (Shell Energy). As part of the acquisition, Shell Energy President and CEO Steven Murray joined MXenergy as its Chief Operating Officer.
