MV Protector

Protector was a large former NOAA research vessel, possibly the NOAAS Oceanographer. Her stark white paint, large radome aft of the funnels and heavy crane on the aft deck gave her a distinctive appearance. She was tied up at the Kirkland Marina between 1997 and 2005 where she served as a breakwater and, depending on one's point of view, either a local landmark or an eyesore.

In August of 2005, she was renamed Sahara and towed away to a Seattle shipyard be refitted as a luxury cruise vessel.[1]
