MIT came up on September 25, 1954 with one discipline i.e. Civil engineering. It was inaugurated by Mr.C.P.N.Singh, Governor of then East Punjab (now Punjab, Haryana and parts of Himachal Pradesh). The first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru laid down the foundation of main building on April 21, 1956. Mechanical engineering and Electrical engineering disciplines were added in 1960. Later on Pharmacy was added in 1978, Leather Technology in 1986, Information Technology and Electronics and Communication Engineering were started in 2001 [4].

[edit] Campus

The green, airy and tidy MIT campus is located at north-west corner of Muzaffarpur city, along Muzaffarpur- Motihari road, and spread over an area of 85 acres at a distance of about 4 kilometers from Muzaffarpur junction. [edit] Giving back to MIT

Dr. Giridhari L.Agrawal, an alumnus of Class of 1958 has pledged to donate 25 computers.

[edit] Future challenges

MIT faces grave challenges due to neglect at the hands of Bihar government. The state government of this backward state is notorious for neglecting the development works. MIT badly needs upgrdaradation of infrastructural facilities to cope up with increased intake. Also recruitment of more faculty members is required.
