Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: is Mutant Melee is a video game of the fighting game genre released in 2005 by Konami. This game is an excellent example of breaking the fourth wall in video games. Mostly, after losing a fight, the character may say some quotes directed at the player. Some examples include:
- Leonardo's "You gotta work with me here."
- Michelangelo's "C'mon bro. You gotta use me better than that."
- Raphael's "Look... don't get me mad, human. I'll bust outta ya TV and rot ya."
- The Shredder's "If I could come out of your TV, you'd be very sorry, now!"
- April's "You're making me look bad."
- Casey's "We're supposed to be working together, right? Now help me out here."
- Hun's "We're a good team. You wanna touch my muscles?

By beating levels you earn tokens for the Library.
There are ten campaigns with only four available in the beginning: Leonardo, Raphael, Don and Michelangelo. The game combines playing both in good guys' and bad guys' campaigns: seven with the heroes (four available in the beginning and three unlockable) and three with the villains. The adventure story combines elements of all types of matches and numerous boss fights. Some players find the adventure story levels too difficult.

Besides the main story, players may compete with all story mode fighters, new ones like Sleeg (a boss) and new character costumes (for example the bandana Hun).Multiplayer game modes include Melee Match, King of the Hill, and Keep Away.

Melee match has two submodes Last man standing and Knock Out.

Fight until there's only one player left Standing.

By knocking out a player you gain one KO, The player with the most KOs at the end of the level wins.

Stand in the circle object witch appears randomly in level to gain point.

Hold the chest, to gain points. note: you can't attack when holding it.

Weapons include Missile Launchers, axes, Swords, and other weapons like a baseball bat and a spiked club. Using a weapon allows the player deal more damage. However the weapon makes the character hit slower and the weapon disappears after several hits.

- Sleeg (a controllable melee mode character and an adventure story boss) has a cameo appearance in the episode 'Across the universe'.
- The big grey alien from the research lab has a cameo appearance in the first episode of 'Notes from the underground'-a three-part story act from the TMNT 2003 animated series.
