Muttom is a village in Kanyakumari District, Tamilnadu State, India.
Muttom one of the best fishing villages in the district, located 18 kilometers from the capital town Nagercoil. Well connected by road to the Nagercoil town. Nearest Airport Trivandrum International Airport approx. 75 km. The beauty of the village is that it has got sandy beach on one half of the village and rocky beach on the other half. Muttom also has a light house that conveys the presence of muttom (muttam) in the international shipping chart. Muttom has a catholic church “All Saints Church”, more than 99 percent of the village are Christians.
Muttom has a primary School, St. Johns primary school managed by the parish priest and headed by Mrs. Christy Antonyappan–the current headmistress. The primary school got classes from Class 1 to Class 5. A Higher Secondary School, All Saints Higher Secondary School, managed by the Monfort Brothers Community. All Saints School has long standing records in both sports and academics. The village has an administration community elected democratically headed by the parish priest.
Once of the tragic incidents in the history of Muttom is the Tsunami 2004 that took nearly 45 lives. After Tsunami Muttom has seen unprecedented growth due to the developments from Government and Non-Government organisations.
A B.Ed college is also established recently and more educational institutions are expected to come in the coming decades. A Government Hospital once famous for its medicines is serving the communities both in muttom and neighbouring villages.
