Makuta Mutran is a fictional character LEGO's Bionicle franchise. He is a mad scientist character and a member of a race of evil shapeshifters called the Makuta who play the role of the main antagonist.
[edit] Fictional character history
Like all Makuta, it was Mutran's job to create experiment and create new Rahi. Shortly after the completion of the island of Destral, Mutran and Chirox, at the time best friends, were experimenting on Rahi when they were approached by Miserix, who asked for one of them to go to Xia and make the Vortixx stop charging high prices for their goods. Mutran ended up going with Icarax and Pridak, and while there, accidentally left behind an experimental Rahi that he kept as a pet; a sentient rock. This rock later grew into The Mountain.
Mutran was also present at a meeting with the League of Six Kingdoms, along with Miserix, Chirox, Icarax, and Teridax (the Makuta of Metru Nui and the storyline's main villain). While the League ruled, Mutran supplied Rahi for their armies, along with other Makuta, but never sent Kalmah anything that he expected to last more than three days. One such species of Rahi he created were the Blade Burrowers. During the Makuta of Metru Nui's battle with the League, Mutran and Gorast were sent to Kalmah's fortress in order to "clean up." While Gorast hunted down the few survivors of Kalmah's army, Mutran noticed that the Blade Burrowers had not only survived, but were building a map. Since that day, he has attempted to find out what they are building a map of. He has not yet succeeded, and is frightened by its implications. Mutran was amongst the Makuta to invade Karda Nui. Unlike the other Makuta there, Mutran was not blinded by the light that caused the revival of Mata Nui because he was not nearby when the event occurred.
Mutran is responsible for the bat-like appearance of the Shadow Matoran, as well as giving Radiak four legs one day when he was moody. He and the Shadow Matoran Vican, who acts as his lab assistant, are the guards to the Shadow Leech vats located deep in the heart of a Shadow Leech Hive. He and Chirox are the creators of the Shadow Leeches and the Tridax Pods. [1]
[edit] Abilities and Traits
Mutran specializes in mutations that tend to be extremely destructive in nature. Chirox, a fellow mutation specialist, thinks very little of his work, however. Like other members of the Brotherhood of Makuta, Mutran wields several different powers. These powers include elemental Shadow powers, shape-shifting, the ability to make Kraata, as well as the many different Kraata/Rahkshi powers.
Mutran has a personality reminiscent of a mad scientist. Bionicle author Greg Farstey has acknowledged Mutran's corollation with the character trope. Like all Makuta, he is is sadistic, egocentric and ambitious though not quite as ambitious as Teridax whose plan to conquer the universe Mutran considered delusional until his encounter with Tren Krom which had a detrimental effect on Mutran's already deranged mind. Mutran is somewhat more loyal than most of his race and on numerous occasions shows respect and even concern for his fellow Makuta, an example being when Miserix attacked Teridax with an energy blast during a meeting, causing Mutran to stand up in order to go and help Teridax to his feet. Admittedly he immediately sat down after a glare from Miserix.

Mutran wields a Shadow Spear and Shadow Blade, carries a Tridax Pod, and wears the Kanohi Shelek.
