Muthupet is a panchayat town in Thiruvarur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

As of 2001 India census[1], Muthupet had a population of 17,313. Males constitute 47% of the population and females 53%. Muthupet has an average literacy rate of 71%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 65%. In Muthupet, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
