[edit] Synopsis
All is not well at the Zoo-niverse. Animals are disappearing one by one. Things go from bad to worse when Joey Moose, one of the zookeepers, goes missing. When Mrs Gideon reports that her python is also on the missing list, Howard is determined to save the day. Howard and Vince stumble across Dixon Bainbridge's secret laboratory and the terrible truth behind his ‘experiments' comes to light.
[edit] Production
- The mutants of the title are not, in fact, mutants. The term 'mutant' refers to a life form with damaged, altered or evolved DNA. The 'mutants' in this episode were merely unwilling transplant victims. Their DNA was the same; they just had animal parts surgically attached to their bodies. For them to be considered mutants, they would have to have been born like that.
- Dee Plume and Sue Denim from the band Robots in Disguise appear in this episode as mutants. This is the first of several times that they appear on the show.
- In this episode Matt Berry refers to a mutant as "Ayoade" after Richard Ayoade, who was originally cast to play Dixon Bainbridge, but was unable to.
