[edit] Re: Hello Tony

Thanks for letting me know about the baseball cat that was posted for deletion. I posted my vote. Take a look and let me know what you think. What do you think about Bruce Sutter going into the Hall without Rich Gooseage? Tony the Marine 02:05, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

Thanks for the Birthday wish my friend. Today I wanted to get Roger Clemens autograph. I was told that the USA Team was staying at the "Ritz". I went there and I found everybody, The San Antonio Spurs and The National Mexican Baseball Team there, but no USA Team. Clemens is the only future Hall of Famer that I need for my collection. Oh well maybe next time. Your friend Tony the Marine 01:51, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Baseball card images

Hi. I just wanted to give you a warning that the image police are cracking down heavily on fair use images lately. I've had one marked as a copyvio. I noticed you upload a lot of baseball card pictures and it looks like those now even have a special mention here as being a violation (see #6). Another sign of the coming storm is here. —Wknight94 (talk) 04:39, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Strikeouts per nine innings

Hi, baseball guy!  :) FYI, I added two new merge tags to your Strikeouts per nine innings article. It looks like someone added two new articles for the same stat and then left Wikipedia. Thought you might want to see what's salvageable in those and just redirect them. —Wknight94 (talk) 16:36, 25 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] re February 28 in baseball et al

I am deleting these after Transwiki'ing them to baseball.wikia.com per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/October 2 in baseball.

I think these are great articles. I and I'm sure many others agree with that. However, a number of Wikipedians felt that this was too much detail for this general encyclopedia and that the material was best served over at the baseball wiki.

I hope you don't see that as in any way a disparagement of your fine and valuable work. The baseball wiki is a sister project (although not actually a part of Wikimedia). Moving these to the baseball wiki is basically just a technical redordering of the content structure for better overall access.

If you have any questions about this please call me. Herostratus 18:23, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Long Tom Hugues.JPEG

Thanks for uploading Image:Long Tom Hugues.JPEG. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Peter O. (Talk) 15:31, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vote stacking at CFD to keep All Star game categories

I'm not sure you understand what is being proposed at CFD about the All Star game categories. I did not propose that the two parent categories be deleted. I propoosed that all the categories by year be deleted and the contents merged into the two top level categories. As articles are being written about each all star game, they can include a complete roster of who played on each team and be anotated with information about their position, and other stats. This is a much better way to present this information than having numerous categories that clutter up articles.

Even if I can't convince you that they should be deleted, it is considered bad form to leave messages on individuals pages asking them to vote a certain way at CFD, AFD, etc... It is considered vote stacking. If you want to leave a neutrally worded message at a wikiproject or a notice board, that is acceptable. Thanks, -- Samuel Wantman 03:20, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Moe Drabowsky.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Moe Drabowsky.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Al_Smith_-The_photograph-.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Al_Smith_-The_photograph-.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is either no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use, or else the rationale given is not valid. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 12:04, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with Image:Imagen Latina-CD cover.jpg

Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Imagen Latina-CD cover.jpg. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:21, 31 August 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Thank you. [edit] Episode articles

It looks like you are creating articles for all episodes of one or more TV Series. This is not in line with our guidelines and policies. Please check especially WP:EPISODE, whichc advises: "If there is enough verifiable information from secondary sources about individual episodes, then create pages for outstanding episodes." Articles which are mainly plot summaries are against policy per WP:NOT#PLOT. It may be a better solution to create articles per season, giving a short summary (and list of guest stars) per episode, than creating these individual articles. [edit] Ismael Valdez

In Spanish, words that have the "stress" in the final syllable and that end in a vowel, n or s have orthographical accents (or "tildes"), and those that have the "stress" in the final syllable and that end in a consonant other than n or s fo not have orthographical accent. Thus, while "Valdés" has a tilde, "Valdez" does not. I fixed Ismael Valdez's name in his article, but can't change the name of the article itself (which incorrectly spells his surname "Valdéz"). [edit] Baseball bios

Great work on creating articles on the forgotten Major Leaguers. I have a couple of things I wanted to bring to your attention, though:

  1. We came to a consensus some time ago not to include links to the all-time rosters on the player bios. I've been removing the links as I've been finding them.
  2. It would be a huge help if you could use the {{Baseballstats}} template for links to baseball-reference.com, etc.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks, Caknuck (talk) 15:27, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Jack O'brian

Thanks for the disamb...I couldn't figure out how to change an article name, and most of the links I found were for the stage director. Flowanda | Talk 15:58, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Template for Caribbean Baseball World Series

Because Template:Caribbean Baseball World Series includes entire article sections, such as References and External Links, it was creating difficulties for other editors who added material to the articles in which it was used. Although I'm aware that it may have helped in constructing the series of articles, I think its longer term use would continue to create barriers for other editors. Therefore, in each of the articles that referenced it, I've boldly replaced the template with the text that it contains. BRMo (talk) 23:13, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Amos Strunk.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Amos Strunk.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:18, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Headers

Be sure to use second level headers (==Name==) in articles. Don't use third level (===Name===) unless it is a sub section of a second level. Reywas92Talk 16:08, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Dab "Jack O'Brien"

  1. I hope you'll consider consulting MoSDab/Dab as you have further occasion to work on Dab pages.
  2. While you were certainly sabotaged by an inexplicable and bizarrely summarized edit, IMO most editors set themselves a standard of care that leads from
"Jack O'Brien" should be a common name; why doesn't Jack O'Brien lk to a Dab?
    to
I wonder if Jack O'Brien (disambiguation) exists?
and i commend such a standard to you.
  3. You won't be able to view the original of this diff, but i could Email it to you, i suppose, if you like. To summarize, it shows that the substantive positive differences of your Dab from the old one were 5 new rd lks. I examined the 3 IMDb pgs you cited (a long dead director of one film, who became an uncredited actor in two more abt a decade later; two actors each with one credit in the bottom 2/3 of the cast list in their respective only films) and did Google tests for the other two topics (one producing 640 hits and one 56), in each case excluding WP and those Google deems essentially identical. (If those additions were not simply WP:POINT, in an attempt to justify the downgrading of the (IMO probably deletable) editor by exhibiting a sea of competitors, i'm surprised that you didn't trouble to view the 3 IMDb pgs and draw what i consider the obvious conclusions, that keying the respective entries was a waste of your time.) On that basis i deleted all five of those rdlks as each presumptively incapable, in the absence of further evidence, of having a corresponding non-deletable article created.
  4. Examined at that point, Jack O'Brien amounted to a duplicate page created by error, and i speedy-deleted it under WP:CSD#G6. Should you prefer the fuss of having the four-edit edit history of your version merged into the longer one of the older Dab (as GDFL arguably requires), please say so and i will oblige you.

You didn't deserve this treatment over edit errors I made; my apologies and thanks again for your help. Flowanda | Talk 03:11, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
