[edit] Biography
[edit] Early years
Yunēk (Pronounced “Unique”) was born Jessica Joseph in Houston, Texas on November 30, 1981.
Yunēk came from a Christian home and accepted Christ at an early age. As a child, Yunēk was heavily involved in church, which is where she discovered her vocal talent at the age of five. However, it was not until her senior year of college at Prairie View A&M University that she had a personal and spiritual revelation of God’s purpose for her life.
In preparation for God’s work, Yunēk studied Audio Engineering at Media Tech Institute in Houston, Texas. “There I learned how to create music beyond it being an idea in my head... I am able to get my thoughts out on paper, through the microphone, and onto a CD!” In fact, Yunēk was recognized by the Houston Chronicle as one of the most talented female audio engineers in the music business.
[edit] Musical career
Yunēk is a self-contained, multitalented artist with high energy stage performance. Through her writing, singing, and producing, Yunēk’s songs embody a refreshing blend of reality and inspiration that is sure to reach all generations. “I do not have to fit in a box. I am able to be uniquely old school, jazz, neo soul, and hip-hop, that’s me”, says Yunēk.
Some of Yunēk’s proudest accomplishments include placement as a semi-finalist for her style, creativity, and lyrics at The Gospel Dream Showcase, which was judged by industry greats such as Kelly Price and Max Siegal as well as performing at the annual Texas Holy Hip Hop Achievement Awards as well as several Stellar Awards Events. Yunek was also granted the opportunity to sing alongside Deitrick Haddon and Damitta Haddon. Yunēk has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Ziel, Dewayne Woods, 21:03, James Fortune & FIYA, Tre' 9, BB Jay, Shei Atkins, J Xavier, Urban D, Special Ed, S.O.M., Joanne Rosario, Tarsha’ Hamilton, Trinity 5:7, Darlene McCoy and more.
Among Yunēk’s major artistic influences, she claims India Arie, Tye Tribbet, Marvin Sapp, Brandy, Beyonće, and Lauren Hill. Yunēk’s songs exemplify a unique blend of passion and inspiration through her writing, singing, and producing all of which she exhibits on her CD. To date, Yunēk has an impressive catalog of over 50 songs.
Her highly anticipated album release set for June 24, 2008 distributed by KOCH Distribution is next on her increasing list of accomplishments. One only has to listen to her debut album, Exodus Three:Seventeen to know that her music is education for the soul. “I touch on the good and the bad, just like the Bible.” From her upbeat hits such as ‘Got Fruit’, ‘Lean on Christ’ and ‘On Fire’ to the more socially conscious melodies found in ‘Real Love’ and ‘Straddle the Fence’, Yunēk never strays from the most important message-salvation. She explains, “Salvation is the key to real joy, it’s the only way to find and keep purpose in your life.”
“I am destined to do this”, Yunēk says. “This is a gift God has given me and it is my purpose to build this ministry to what God wants it to be.” Yunēk has answered the call, returned to her path, and refuses to look back.
