[edit] Blurry photo

There was a better photo that was commented out a while back. Image:ByrnJonesSoleilmoonPromoPhoto.jpg How about using it instead? --Mperry 03:24, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

  • the "blurry photo" isnt bad, its "blurry" on purpose. but ur right, the other one is better. theres no reason there cannot be two photos in this article so i'm going to move the other one down. there was no photo up when i added the other one. AlexOvShaolin 22:07, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
  • i moved the other photo down to the live section. AlexOvShaolin 22:10, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Soliemoon

i'm adding the list of unreleased stuff soiliemoon announced (list: http://arabbox.free.fr/unreleased.htm ), theres no telling whether or not all of this stuff will come to light eventually, so it is helpful to note what is known. AlexOvShaolin 05:17, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] cut/paste from my site

I am the webmaster of the arabbox fansite about Muslimgauze, and I see lots of photos and texts are cut/paste into that page about Muslimgauze.I want to say that I am not ok with that, you can make a link to my site unstead : http://arabbox.free.fr The unreleased section will be real time modified, it's much more better and respectful to my work. thank you. mo. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.220.90.11 (talkcontribs) .

I have emailed the webmaster of the site in question to verify that this message was posted by him/her. If I get an affirmative response I will go through the article and remove any copyright violations and rewrite sections where applicable. --Mperry 20:45, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
Thanks :) (I had a look, but couldn't read the red-text-on-black during the daylight!) -Quiddity 22:10, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
I did hear back and it was him that posted that. --Mperry 00:12, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
WO hold up, the reason i added that info is because it sounds like the dude from arabbox merely nicked the info from the izlamaphobia news letter. if i am wrong, and he is from soilemoon, thats different. And as far as the promotional stuff goes, unless the dude running arrabox owns the rights to them (which he may) he really doesn't have authority to request them being removed. AlexOvShaolin 01:43, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
The spreadsheet style info (discog etc) should be perfectly fine to copy. It is freely available info. (Just like IMDB couldn't object to our copying an actor's filmography). Though the site should be listed as the primary source. As long as no prose was copied without sourcing (whether from a site or a newsletter), and no personal photos used, it should be all good. Or perhaps Mo. can point out a few specific problems? :) --Quiddity 03:26, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
That list of unreleased material has made it's way around the islamaphonia mailing list about once a year since right after Bryn died. IIRC, Charles from Soleilmoon put the list together and all Mr. Arabbox has done is delete the parts of the list that have since been released. And it's ludicrous for him to assert that his list will be edited in "real time"; as if the pace of Muslimgauze releases is so overwhelming that there's no way the list on this page couldn't be edited as well. dil 13:38, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] vandalism by 81.220.90.11

it seems that the person running arrabox has committed a fair amount of unrespectable editing, especially on Oct. 28. Even though the content used on this site came from his website (posters, et cetera), he by no means owns the exclusivity to the content, as it is fair use promotional material. After he edited the article, and it was reverted by a few people paying attention, he requests that material is removed. I dont think there is much excuse for this action, and i'm proposing banning him, i would like a concensus, thank you. AlexOvShaolin 03:55, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

Not a bannable offence at all. He's just not educated about how this project works yet. Now that we have the beginnings of a dialogue, he might even become a contributor. WP:AGF and WP:BITE ;-)
He may not own the images, but it looks like he might have scanned them himself - I'd be grumpy if someone used my scans, regardless of ownership; and I don't know whether the photographs are his own shots or 'actual promotional photos' distributed by someone else - better sourcing for these photos would be appreciated - Image:MuslimgauzeLive1998-06-13-Photo2.jpg and Image:MuslimgauzeLive1998-06-13.gif. Thanks :) --Quiddity 19:05, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
No, we don't need to ban him. Like Quiddity said, the guy doesn't know Wikipedia or its policies. --Mperry 00:09, 9 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Moved discography to its own page

The discography section was huge and was dominating the page so I've moved it to its own page. Maybe we can update the format and put it in a table with album info and CD covers. Example. --Mperry 19:55, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Remixing

the article says: "However, despite a few collaborations, Jones didn't trust anyone when it came to remixing his music. Instead, he would usually take pieces of music that were sent to him and remix them to his own liking."

what about, for example, the whole "occupied territories" double-album? [1] [2] Tjenare 14:14, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Taqwacore

I removed this as a category for two reasons. First, Muslimgauze wasn't a punk project and Taqwacore seems to espouse some kind of melange of hardcore punk and Islamic culture; slapping a genre label on Muslimgauze that postdates Bryn's death by four years doesn't really seem appropriate. Second, I'm having trouble buying into a genre that is named after a book detailing a (then) fictional genre of music and that, according to Wikipedia, has precisely one band attributed to it. dil 21:25, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
