I've searched pretty hard for photos, and only found one of any kind that would be useful, and of course, it was not freely licensed. Tuf-Kat 05:41, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

I did upload three sound samples though. Two of them are definitely very notable (the lyrics to "The Big Bamboo" are pretty funny - I'll give a hint... I don't think the woman wants a big bamboo plant.) Rupee may not be so notable in the grand scheme of things (not sure), but a song of his was available and he is, at least, typical and representative if not particularly pioneering himself. It's not a history of everything musical that has happened in Barbados - it's an overview. It explains quite a bit about music in modern life. A 21st century section under "history" would almost inherently be out of historical context. If something suitably notable and verifiable has occurred, it should be in the 20th century section, at the end (and that section should be renamed, obviously). Tuf-Kat 00:39, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Nice job with this article. As you may or may not be aware much of the Caribbean music scene has found it's new more modern home in Toronto. So it's mostly Canadian sites that have the newwer Caribbean music online for sampling.

In terms of what's happening to Barbados music, for a long time Square One [1] and Krosfyah [2] dominated the party soca music scene but Square 1 Retired last year. Alison Hinds from that group only occationally makes music now. And all the original crew from Krosfyah have retired. Lil' Rick is the new household name when it comes to Barbados soca.

Oh and this article touches on Caribbean Jazz, here's 2 samples of that from Barbados:

In terms of Tuk Music and Spouge, both had died out in Barbados replaced by Reggae, Ragga-Soca or Party Soca. Lately some artists have been trying to bring back the Tuk sound i.e. (A Drum, Bass, a flut and a Triangle) - namely Terencia Coward "TC" comes to mind.

But none the less the Barbados music industry is going thru a shake-out right now. There's a lot of new names to the scene right now most of whom I don't yet know by name that are trying to out-do many of the artists that rose to fame in the late 80's/early 90's.

This is a great article in terms of information and is definitely worthy of good article status but it uses way to many subheadings in my opinion. Many of the sub-headed sections could easily be combined into one section instead of the chopped up version the article presents. The Song section made reference to songs written for the coronation of Elizabeth I of England. This seems highly unlikely to me, since Elizabeth I was crowned in 1559 and Barbados didn't come under British control until 1627 (according to History of Barbados). I went ahead and changed the reference to Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom. Perhaps a native Barbadian can check that. --Wayne Miller 23:04, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Actually as the story is told in the Barbados press, Rihanna was actually found by accident... She was found while a record promoter was on Vacation in Barbados... CaribDigita (talk) 23:36, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
