Musugundan

Musugundhan is name of the king who ruled a part of South India located in Tamilnadu State, Thanjavur District and comprises 35 villages.

Community in this place in the modern era is classified as Velallar.

All the villages are well supplied with cauvery water and people survive with agriculture. Most of the places in ancient times looked like forest and hence the name Kadu is added as a suffix to all the names.

In the modern era, most of the places in these villages above the water level are supplied with the bore wells.

The forest land of Musugundan is named as Mannankadu. Mannan in Tamil means King, kadu means forest.

The place where he stored all his wealth is named as Kasangadu. Kasu means Money, kadu means forest.

A small community of people who really served in manufacturing "Silambu" to the king is named as Silambavelankadu. Velan means farm in Tamil. Forest for Farm for anklets is Silambalavelankadu.

Similarly other villages served as a purpose for the King Musungundan and they are named in that way.

The Musungundan Community is comprised of 32 Villages. Initially it was 35, however, it has since been reduced to 32.

Due to the internal conflict within the community three villages had been expelled, namely Nemmeli,Kattanyankadu and Sirankudi.
