Mustafa Hijri

Mustafa Hijri (in Kurdish: Mistefa Hicrî) (born 1945) is the current General Secretary of Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (KDPI). He was born in Naghadeh, in Western Azarbaijan province. He graduated from the College of Agriculture in Urmia in 1963, and began working as a teacher in Saqez. Later on he attended University of Tehran and received a Bachelor in Persian literature.

He was elected as a member of the Central Committee and Political Bureau of KDPI in 1979. On September 17, 1992, Hijri was appointed as General Secretary of KDPI. He promotes federalism as a model for governance and power sharing in Iran. In his view, federalism must based on geography and ethnicity, and this helps in resolving grievances of different ethnic groups in Iran. In addition, he advocates peaceful coexistence between Kurds and Azeri people in northwestern Iran.
