[edit] Early years

Abbas has been singing since the age of 10. Although he never received professional training, he was inspired by Ghulam Ali to take up singing. By practicing at home, Mussarat improved his singing techniques and continued to win singing competitions in his hometown of Lahore. Abbas attended Punjab University in Lahore, Pakistan. [1]

[edit] Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007

Mussarat was chosen to be in Himesh Reshammiya's Rock gharana after his first performance on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. He instantly caused an argument after performing "Main Jahaan Rahoon", amongst judges Vishal Dadlani and Himesh Reshammiya over whether or not he should sing in one genre. Abbas experimented outside one genre but proved his strength in the Sufi genre after performing various Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan songs which earned him high marks and praise from the judges. Ultimately, Mussarat was eliminated on September 14, but not before causing another argument between Himesh and Vishal. Mussarat made one final appearance on Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, when he sang Tere Bin Nahin Lagda at the Grand Finale.

Mussarat's most memorable performances from the show included his singing of "Sanwre" and "Tere Bin Nahin Lagda", both of which earned praise from all of the judges and Mussarat was requested to sing again.
