Musicadium

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Musicadium is a digital music distribution service founded in 2006. With its headquarters in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, Musicadium is the only Australian-owned, dedicated digital distribution service.

After initially taking 9% of its customer's sales royalties, Musicadium moved to a 100% royalties returned to the artist model in December 2007. Musicadium artists retain the rights to their music and the distribution deal is non-exclusive.

A number of digital distributors including IODA and CD Baby continue to take a percentage of sales royalties from artists using their services. Musicadium's 100% royalties returned to the artist model is also utilised by US-based aggregator Tunecore.

There is debate about which royalties model is of most benefit to artists.[1]

Musicadium charges for artists to join and has annual fees. The company performs little promotion for the multitude of artists it signs often resulting in a loss for the artists.
