Music wire is a common high-carbon steel alloy used for spring manufacture. Music wire is ASTM A228 carbon steel. It is cold drawn and offers uniform tensile strength. Due to this uniformity, music wire is a common choice for springs in cyclically loaded applications. Music wire springs are not recommended for applications where the temperature exceeds 121°C (250°F). Music wire is ferromagnetic.
