"Music Gets the Best of Me" was Sophie Ellis-Bextor's fourth and final single off of her first solo album, Read My Lips, although it was only included upon the re-released edition of the album. Alhough most of her fans like this song, it did not do so well on the charts. Earlier, her 3 first singles went straight to the top 3, and Music gets the Best of me only made it as high as #14 on the UK charts. (But it managed to peak at #4 on the World Chart in 2003). This is most likely because Read My Lips had gone platinum by then. "Music Gets the Best of Me" also has two different music videos. One is the original version, the version that was released to TV and the other one is an alternate version. Both are available on her DVD Watch My Lips.
[edit] Music video
There are two different versions of the video for "Music Gets the Best of Me". Both are available in her Watch my Lips DVD. The first video shows clips of Sophie having fun in the sun. We see her swimming, tanning and just enjoying her time. Later near the end of the video, we see Sophie having fun at a carnival. During most of the video, we see her with headphones showing that she's enjoying her music.
The alternative version of "Music Gets the Best of Me" shows Sophie going into a dinner party where she is not invited. She then puts in a CD, and starts to sing and goes from place to place. It then ends by her saying that she had a fun time at the party, and leaving.
Both videos were directed by Sophie Muller.
