Musgrave Park is a stadium in the city of Cork, Ireland. The ground consists of four terraces and one stand on the west side. The stadium is one of Munster Rugby's home grounds along with Thomond Park in Limerick. Munster will play all of their non-Heineken Cup fixtures in Musgrave until the current redevelopment of Thomond Park is completed. It has a capacity of between 7,000 and 8,000 and is situated on Pearse Road, Ballyphehane, Cork.[1]
[edit] Redevelopment
In 2003, plans were unveiled which could see Musgrave Park turn into a 17,000 all-seater stadium.[2] This redevelopment is expected to go ahead once the expansion of Thomond Park is finished in 2008. The exact capacity varies according to different reports, but the capacity will at least double from the existing status.[3]
Another stadium in Cork the Gaelic Athletic Association's Páirc Uí Chaoimh has also has an ongoing proposed redevlopment, making it into a 60,000 state-of-the-art all-seater.[4] [5] If it went ahead it would be unclear how this would affect the status of Musgrave Park.
