The Virtual Museum of the City of San Francisco functions as a general multi-media website featuring "the interesting, the amusing, and the unusual in San Francisco's history." It is separate from the San Francisco Museum and Historical Society, which is planning a museum to occupy the Old Mint building. The Virtual Museum website features major online exhibits on the Gold Rush, the 1906 earthquake and fire, and the Golden Gate Bridge.
