Museum of the American Railroad

The Museum of the American Railroad, formerly known as the Age of Steam Railroad Museum, is located in Fair Park, Dallas, Texas. The museum has a large collection of steam, diesel and passenger railroad equipment. The museum is noted for allowing guests to walk through some of the equipment.

As is with most railroad museums, several pieces of equipment have been restored on the property, and several are being restored. The museum has a highly skilled and dedicated restoration team. As of December, 2006, the following pieces of equipment are being restored to operating condition:

[edit] Plans for the future

A new strategic plan, called Visions 2006, was developed that calls for a comprehensive reorganization of the museum, including new facilities, new governance and new programs. Visions 2006 can be viewed on the museum website. In 2008, the museum entered an agreement to move to a new location in the city of Frisco, Texas that would better meet the strategic plan than the current 1.8 acre Fair Park site.[1][2]
