Muscogee, Florida

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Muscogee, Florida, is a ghost town located twenty miles northwest of Pensacola, Florida along the Perdido river. It was founded in 1857 by a group of lumbermen harvesting timber. The associated lumber mills employed over a thousand men and the town had a population of 300 to 400. In 1928, the mills were abandoned and the land and town were sold.

Aside from the cemetery, little evidence remains of what was once an important lumber town.

Famous aviator Jackie Cochran was born in Muscogee in 1906.
