[edit] Studies __?

Surely a musicologist is someone who studies music. Someone who studies musicology would be something like a metamusicologist. --GuillaumeTell 18:08, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Semantics? A musicologist does study musicology, at least while in school. Historians study the past and history. Hyacinth 06:53, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
I'm happy with "practises" - much better! --GuillaumeTell 11:05, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

What standard is that? Hyacinth 11:29, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

Standards of spelling. "Practice" is a noun. "Practise" is the verb. It may be that this distinction isn't observed in the USA any more (or, maybe, never was) and/or it is being eroded elsewhere. If so, it's a symptom of the Collapse Of Western Civilisation As We Know It. Or something like that. --GuillaumeTell 22:00, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
Well, good to know that our ignorance goes both ways. Hyacinth 09:17, 2 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Merger

The parent category Category:Music scholars is basically empty except for the Category:Musicologists. Distinctions between these categories are apparently not observed by Wikipedian editors. Can we merge them together? And if so, which is the preferred category name -- Music scholars, or musicologists? --lquilter 16:03, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
