Murum is located at 18.07° N 74.32° E[1]. It has an average elevation of 548 metres (1797 feet).

As of 2001 India census[2], Murum had a population of 17,232. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Murum has an average literacy rate of 63%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 73%, and female literacy is 53%. In Murum, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

In this town mainly two languages are spoken Kannada & Marathi. Town has two big colleges, and a main market place, the villagers from neighbouring places comes to Murum for shopping and hospitals.
