Murtaza Rakhimov

Murtaza Gubaydullovich Rakhimov (Russian: Муртаза́ Губайду́ллович Рахи́мов; Bashkir: Мортаҙа Ғөбәйҙулла улы Рәхимов) is the President of the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russia. He was born on February 7, 1934 in the village of Tavakanovo of Kugarchinsky District of the Bashkir Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. He is an ethnic Bashkir. He was elected on December 17, 1993 as the first person to become the President of the Republic. Prior to the elections, Rakhimov was the Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic—the highest post at that time.
