Murtada al-Ansari

Shaykh Murtada al-Ansari (in Persian, pronounced Morteza Ansari), d. 1864 C.E. (1281 A.H.), was a leading authority in Twelver Shi'a Islamic jurisprudence in nineteenth-century Iran. For most of his life he taught in Najaf.

His major works are:

  • Faraid al-Usul, on the principles of probability in Islamic law (see Usul al-fiqh)
  • Makasib, on the law of contract.
