Murray M. Baker

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Murray Morrison Baker (1872–1964) was the first executive vice president of what became Caterpillar Tractor Company. As general manager of Holt Manufacturing Company, he convinced Holt to move to Peoria in 1909.[citation needed] Holt merged with C.L. Best Gas Tractor Co. to form Caterpillar in 1925.

The Murray Baker Bridge, which carries Interstate 74 over the Illinois River, is named for Baker, as is Baker Hall, home of the Foster College of Business Administration at Bradley University.
