Murlo is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Siena in the Italian region Tuscany, located about 70 km south of Florence and about 20 km south of Siena. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,116 and an area of 115.0 km².[1]
The municipality of Murlo contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Casciano, Vescovado, Bagnaia, Befa, Casanova, Fontazzi, Lupompesi, Miniera di Murlo, Montepescini, Poggiobrucoli, and Poggiolodoli.
Murlo borders the following municipalities: Buonconvento, Civitella Paganico, Montalcino, Monteroni d'Arbia, Monticiano, Sovicille.
The hill of Poggio Civitate was an ancient settlement which is currently the site of archaeological investigations.[2]
