Murdo Fraser (born 5 September 1965, Inverness) is the deputy leader of the Scottish Conservatives in the Scottish Parliament, and a member of the party's Shadow Cabinet. He has been a Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Mid Scotland and Fife region since 2001.
He studied law at the University of Aberdeen and before becoming a member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) he worked as a solicitor. He was chairman of the Scottish Young Conservatives from 1989 to 1992. At the 1999 Scottish Parliamentary Election he was an unsuccessful candidate for Tayside North, although he became an MSP in 2001 after the resignation of Nick Johnston, as next name on the Conservative Party's Mid Scotland and Fife list.
He was re-elected in 2003 and 2007. He became deputy leader of the Scottish Conservatives in November 2005 when Annabel Goldie became leader.
